We recently went looking for a task list manager for using inside the office, but ended up with project management software.
Taskware seemed like the right solution for us when we went looking for something to help keep track of assigned tasks and thier completion status. It's all php, so we downloaded it and installed it on our local server. It looked good because it was simple an clear. The first let down we noticed was that it lacked the ability to cc members of a team on a task that was assigned to an individual. if we wanted to use this software as is we would have to "assign" the task to the group, and then indicate in the actual task who was supposed to actually do the work...A bit of a hack. We also encountered a couple of bugs. The first was an incorrect mysql "name" call that would sometimes case the list of tasks to display incorrectly, and the second was the ability to "delete" the task name so it was blank. This was a bit of a problem at first, because you couldn't then click on the blank name in order to delete it. Mike in our office determined that even though the name was invisible, you could in fact still "tab over" to it and delete it that way.
Fair enough - what can you you expect for free software that hasn't been released yest as version one. Some of the problems had been fixed by another contributor, and we fixed up a couple of the problems ourselves, and submitted them back. We were considering adding the missing "group CC" feature when we cam across phpcollab.
We're evaluating phpCollab now, and will let you know what we think.
