We provide high quality satellite intstallation and comissioning for Barrett Xplornet satellite internet using Telesat Canada's Anik II. Please refer to the complete service plan details on xplornet.com or call us for further information at 902-628-1705.
Q: In what area of the world do you service/install?
A: All of Prince Edward Island, Canada. For commercial installations we will also include Nova Scotia and New Brunswick locations. See the Xplornet website for other dealers/installers accross Canada.
Q: Where will this satellite service work?
A: Anywhere in Canada where you can get an unobstructed view to the satellite. In PEI this means you need to be able to see the sky South-West (255degrees) and approximately 20 degrees up. Trees are usually the only obstruction, but generally we can locate the dish to avoid them.
Q: I installed my on TV dish - Can I put the dish on a pole, on a tree, install it myself...etc
A: No - Professional installation is required. This is two way satellite transmission, and much more careful pointing and peaking of signal is required compared to TV satellite. Trees or poles cannot be used as they will tend to move too much. The exception would be a post/pole that is installed to our specifications expressly for the high-speed satelllite dish.
Q: How big is the dish.
A: We generally ONLY do new installations using the new KA band system. This is a .5 meter dish. Which is bigger than a Bell TV dish, but close to the size of the ExpressVu dishes. The XPLORNET dish does have additional stability arms/braces coming from the main support post that must be installed. For this reason we strongly prefer to mount the dish on a wall and not the roof.
Q: Does this receive TV as well?
A: No it is just for two way internet. (Of course you can use your computer do download videos from the internet)
Q: Do I need a second phone line?
A: This is two way satellite a phone line is not needed.
Q:Can I use this with a VOIP phone line service?
A: Yes, but it is not officially supported. So you are on your own as to quality of service. Generally for this to work satisfactorily you will need a package higher than the basic speed level.
Q: What speed level do I need? can I expect?
A: We all want more speed. Our customers have generally been very happy with the starter level of .5Mbit/sec. some have moved up to the higher speeds for business or VOIP reasons. You can always change your plan.
Q: Who are you, and who is Barrett Xplornet, and who is Telesat Canada?
A: Telesat is a Canadian satellite communications company, and owns the actual satellite. Telesat.
A: Barrett Xplornet is the (Internet service provider) and provides the service. Your service is with them and your monthly bill will be from them.
A: ETC, Engtech, We are the dealer and installer. We sell and install the dish, and perform maintenance work for Barrett Xplornet. We bill you only for the Dish and installation (depending on service package).
